Weavers of luxury accessories since 1866.
Alex Begg produces luxurious cashmere scarves and throws for the Begg & Co brand as well as for some of the world’s most prestigious fashion houses. Alex Begg began making scarves in Paisley in 1866 before moving to their current premises in Ayr in 1902.
See inside one of the last Scottish weaving mills with a private factory tour, available by prior arrangement.
Inside the factory, traditional, time-tested production techniques are applied, such as pummelling the cloth in a century-old wooden milling machine to release short fibres for a soft handle, or using specially grown hand-harvested Italian teasel plant heads, brushed on with a sprinkling of Scottish water, to create that characteristic ripple effect. For other purposes, cutting-edge equipment comes into play, and Alex Begg is continually investing in new state-of-the-art systems such as its computerised jacquard weaving machines.
And don't forget a visit to their factory outlet shop (open Monday-Friday) where you can buy one of their handcrafted exquisite scarves, wraps or throws that are a pleasure to touch, wear and own.
